I am from Australia (NSW) but long time in Europe. My Austrian (Silesian) soldier ancestor, 18th century, had a mother with an Irish name and his daughter married an Irishman in Ireland. They emigrated to Australia about 1860. Have you made researches on the Irish/Austrian connections? Any results? Regards, milo

My origins are in Tara Motilor, i'm a "mot" (to be read "motz"). My grand-grand-grand-grandfather fought in romanian ethnics built raised Legio II Auraria Gemina, leaded by Avram Iancu in 1848-1849 to suport austrian army against hungarian insurgents. My grand-grandfather from my father's side fought in austrian army in WW1 on italian front, were he was took POW by italians. My grand-grandfather from my mother's side fought in romanian army against hungarians in 1919 and reached Budapest in tha campaign against comunist hungarian Bela Kun.

For his service he received the title "Edler von" from the Emperor, Franz Joseph.) But also possibly she is the great grand daughter of one of the brothers of Franz Ferdinand as Friedrichs wife already had a child before she married him. The family story passed down the generations is that it was an arranged marriage to a military man by a member of the royal family to ensure the illegitimate daughter was well cared for, There are pictures of the ''real' father, i just have to convince the owner to part with them! Hopefully i can post them soon!

A lot of useful and interesting information. My grandfather on my fathers side was in the Hungarian army during WWI. He, his second wife and my father came to the US after the war was over. My family's trade was that of barbers for many many generations even after they migrated here to the US. My mothers family also came to the US from Hungary. Gyorkony I believe is the town name.
