I am from Verona, in the north-east of Italy, a town full of memories of the Austrian Empire, like many forts and other military buildings, and also an Austrian military cemetary where are buried many soldiers fallen in the battles of 1859, 1866 and also in WW1.

I live in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. This is a community with many Ethnic groups. I am 68 years old and remember talking with men who fought in the German, AH, Russian, and Serb Armies of WWI when i worked in the Steel Mill and Coal Mine in the late 40's and 50's. My fathers family ame to the US fron Ireland in 1882 and my mothers family came out of Switzerland about the same time.
I am currently a member of the CFU (Croation Fraternal Union) SNPJ, Bulgarian Macedonian Society and the American Serbian Club of Pittsburgh. I enjoy their activities and publications, but the oldtimers are now gone. |

I am from Steyr in Upper Austria. And I am sure you heard of our famous rifle manufactorer Josef Werndl and all the weapons which were produced here until some years ago: starting with Werndl, Kropatschek, Mannlicher, Mauser, Schwarzlose, up to our days with the "AUG" resp. "Sturmgewehr 77".

Here's your Ruthenian/Rusyn from the U.S. (Milwaukee).
My grandfather, Petro Cuprisin, was conscripted into the army in 1914 out of his village, Hrabovcik, in modern-day Slovakia. He was captured by the Russians and spent time as a POW (although I don't have more specific info). My late father was 5 years old when the tsarist troops occupied his village for a short time in early 1915. Hello everyone!
I'm visiting this site on daily basis :-) Anyway, originally I'm from Krakow (or as some of you might know Krakau) Poland. From windows of my house I could see forts 51a, 51, 50 1/2W, 50 1/2O, 50. All those forts were engaged into artillery duel with Russians that were approaching from the East in Dec 1914. Currently I'm living in Chicago. I'm also reenacting A-H Inf. Reg 63. |
